Developing an Institutional Theory and Practice Relationship

Abstract: Conference based conversations with historians teaching in some institutions have revealed to me that theory and practice are not always successfully implemented, but in recent years this is changing and what we are seeing more is the implementation of links between the lecture room and the studio environment.
Due to the work of management, historians, and studio practitioners, Cleveland College of Art and Design has developed a successful and fruitful relationship between studio and lecture room. This case study will focus upon the work done in two of the college’s H.E. Programmes; BA (Hons) Entertainment Design Crafts, and BA (Hons) Textiles and Surface Design, paying particular attention to how both lecture room and studio based learning are effectively linked.
