We are pleased to announce the launch of this year’s ADM-HEA Student Essay Competition
"Learning to live sustainably – how can your subject area contribute?"
ADM-HEA invites students on UK-based art, design or media higher education courses to enter this year’s essay competition and answer the question above in an essay of around 1000 words. The overall winning submission will receive £250.

Call for Bids: ESD and Interdisciplinarity Small Grants
Expressions of interest by Monday, 18 January 2010
The Higher Education Academy’s ESD Project is pleased to announce the following funding opportunity. They invite applications for the funding of small grants designed to develop small-scale work in the area of interdisciplinarity. Whilst the growing sustainability agenda is giving rise to interdisciplinary research in HEIs, interdisciplinary teaching and learning is less developed, indicating a gap between interest on the one hand, and slow progress on the other – often related to existing boundaries and barriers pertaining in institutions. This funding is designed to encourage bidders to develop collaborative activities that can research, inform, and build on the interdisciplinary nature of ESD and explore its potential for curriculum innovation and renewal. It is expected that the bids will be curriculum and pedagogy focused.
Bids from more than one academic discipline are mandatory.
The ESD Project is setting aside £25k for grants in this Tranche; the maximum funding for any single proposal will be £5k.
There will be a two-stage process whereby expressions of interest of not more than 250 words are invited by noon on Monday 18 January 2010, and applicants will be informed of the outcome by Wednesday 27 January 2010.
Successful bidders will then be invited to submit full applications by Monday 8 March 2010. Applicants will be informed by Friday 9 April 2010. It is expected that projects will be completed by 24 June 2011.

Design and the Creative Industries Conference: Working Together with Universities

The day will offer opportunities for industry professionals, academics, students and policy makers to meet and discuss how best to develop practical ways to build sustainable partnerships and collaborations for mutual economic, social and cultural benefit.
The presentations, contributions and discussions will lead to a concise report that will be developed and published to advise the future government on the opportunities and current barriers for partnership and how these might be overcome.

Disciplines, Pedagogies and Cultures for SoTL
This year’s themes are at the core of the SoTL community’s reflections on its purpose and progress. The issues they raised have gradually emerged as problematic, and therefore worthy of debate and enquiry, in recent years across the sector.
These questions will inform the debates at the London SoTL 8th International Conference, under three different strands:
Strand 1: Disciplines
Strand 2: Pedagogies
Strand 3: Cultures
This year’s themes will be addressed in the plenary panel sessions and in the now customary “Author meets Reader” sessions. They encourage all participants to address the themes, and the connections between them, whenever possible throughout the conference.
All forms of scholarship are encouraged to be submitted for presentation.

TRACEY's current call for papers - Drawing & Technology
Deadline for submissions: 23 April 2010
Tracey is a peer reviewed electronic journal dedicated to drawing and contemporary issues. It is varied and diverse with a fast growing readership of academics, students and practitioners representing a wide range of drawing interests including fine art, architectural design, graphics, product design and visual communication, ideally any activity in which drawing is essential.
In this next invitation for submissions, they are focusing on the theme of Drawing & Technology.
A submission may constitute drawings or other visual material, texts or research papers that have not been published before or have been published in a different context and also texts and images combined. There is no word or image limit at this stage.
