Inclusive Practices, Inclusive Pedagogies

A new book jointly commissioned by the Council for Higher Education in Art & Design (CHEAD), United Kingdom Arts & Design Institutions Association (UKADIA), Arts Council England and the Art Design Media Subject Centre is now available.
 
Authored and edited by Dr Dipti Bhagat and Dr Peter O’Neil, the book draws on research into widening participation practices in higher education art & design and includes extracts from a range of work by practitioners and researchers.

SEDA Special 30

Symposium: The Incredible Lightness of Being: Jiří Pelcl – Czech Design

A major British premiere of the work of Jiří Pelcl, leading Czech international designer. The Brighton exhibition provides an opportunity to study Jiří Pelcl’s work at first hand as well as the platform for a one-day symposium. The exhibition runs from 7 January – 20 February 2012.

GLAD Conference 2012: It started with a KIS!

The key aim of this conference is to explore how the forthcoming requirement for HEIs to publish details about contact hours, student satisfaction and employability will affect lecturers and students in Art and Design Higher Education. Proposals to offer workshops on any of the themes below:

National Student Survey

  • Sharing teaching and learning projects that have led to improved NSS results.
  • Improving engagement with the Students' Union
  • Projects to improve the assessment experience for students
  • Strategies to improve feedback  

Employability

  • Sharing of best practice in relation to preparing students for employment
  • Work related learning initiatives

 Contact hours

  • Projects that explore ways to enhance the timetabled offer to students

Each workshop will be 45 minutes duration, to consist of 20 minutes input and 25 minute discussion. Workshop proposals should be a maximum of 250 words.

Assimilate: Assessing students at Masters level

Assimilate is a three-year National Teaching Fellowship funded project investigating innovative assessment at Masters level. They have been exploring practice in the UK and internationally over the last two years  and the 2012 conference will include presentations by the Assimilate team. They also want to showcase work from beyond their project on Masters level learning and assessment.
