Funding available from JISC

The deadline for proposals is 12 noon on Thursday 30 April 2009.

The JISC invites tenders to produce a series of short videos and podcasts to support and disseminate the work of the JISC Film and Sound Think Tank.

Funding of between £40,000 and £45,000 (including VAT, travel and subsistence) is available for this work.  

The successful bidder will be expected to start work by the end of May 2009 and the work must be completed by mid-July 2010.

ADM-HEA COLLABORATIVE EVENTS

Collecting Experiences: enriching design students' learning in the museum
Sackler Centre for Arts Education, V&A, London
24 April 2009

Museums and their collections can offer rich learning opportunities for higher education students of art and design.  How can these opportunities be developed, supported and enriched?
 
Research conducted by the Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning through Design (CETLD) at the V&A, identified limited targeted educational provision for higher education design students in museums. The same research suggested ambivalence from museum educators about the most effective ways in which to support higher education students’ learning in this context; this is in spite of the fact that tutors see the role of the museum as “an academic facilitator, supporting student learning…”  Similarly, tutors were ambivalent about ways that they can support students’ learning from museums, although they believe that museums do provide a range of valuable learning opportunities.
 
This day seeks to highlight the innovative and exciting work being undertaken in this area. The day will provide an opportunity for museum educators and higher education tutors to hear about pedagogical approaches, collaborative activities and resources developed to support art and design students’ learning from museums and their collections.  Our definition of ‘the museum’ is broad and presentations will range from exploration of departmental handling collections and the uses of university archives, to collaborations between large public museums and higher education institutions.
 
The symposium has been organised by The Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning through Design (CETLD) and the Art Design Media Subject Centre of the Higher Education Academy (ADM-HEA).

Expectations, Experiences and Encounters in HE and HE in FE – The 3Es
University of Bolton
12 June 2009

Are you a member of staff teaching Art, Design and Media in HE or HE in FE? If so this event will be of interest to you.

This one-day event hosted by the University of Bolton on behalf of the NW Network Group has been developed to disseminate the findings of collaborative research into student expectations, experiences and encounters with higher education undertaken in the Northwest of England.

Student expectations, experiences and encounters, and staff perceptions were explored through innovative research partnerships between staff teaching higher education art, design and media in universities and further education colleges. The value of these  partnerships will also form a focus for the day.

The keynote speaker is Professor Mantz Yorke who will present issues that have arisen from the research he has undertaken on the student experience.

Ian Lindsay, Academic Advisor HE in FE for the Higher Education Academy Subject Network will talk about why and how HE in FE staff can get involved in scholarly activity and how the Academy and its Subject Centres can help to facilitate this.

The objectives of the day are to:

  • Disseminate the findings of the project
  • Share good practice
  • Discuss the benefits of collaborative research in HE and HE in FE
  • Offer opportunities for sectoral discussion
  • Engage further with HE in FE
  • Continue to strengthen the links for all attendees

Foresight - mapping the territory

This conference provides a platform for both established and emerging fashion and/or textiles, and fashion & textiles related researchers to communicate and discuss current research concerns.

The UK is a global hub for the initiation and exchange of fashion and textile education, research, innovation and creative practice. Foresight – mapping the territory uses the UK as both a physical and conceptual location to bring educators, researchers and practitioners together to explore contemporary initiatives and global perspectives that are fashion and/or textiles specific, or fashion and textiles related. New synergies are creating enriching partnerships and attitudes, widening
research and practice agendas within this field.

There are two forms of submission

  • 20 minute presentations of papers reflecting the conference theme indicated below.
  • 10 minute presentations for emerging researchers highlighting their current research

The papers will be peer refereed, with papers published by the Fashion & Textile Association following the conference.

Creative Interventions – request for participants in online survey

The University of the Arts London, in collaboration with the Arts Institute at Bournemouth and SCEPTrE at the University of Surrey, is currently funded by the HEA National Teaching Fellowship project scheme to research creative and performing arts student’s experiences of public and voluntary sector work related activity. This includes work placements, competitions, social enterprise, charity work, volunteering and more. We know there is a vast range of exciting activity going on and we want to explore the territory and uncover the rich learning, life-wide benefits and issues surrounding these experiences.
