Creative Academy

The Creative Academy at Surrey are trying to make their resources, formed around the ideas of 'learning to be professional' and 'life-wide learning', accessible through live streaming of seminars and archived films on their wikis.

Creative Academy is a creative intervention aimed at transferring and adapting creative thinking and facilitation techniques used in the design world to other disciplinary teaching and learning contexts in the world of higher education. It comprises a one or two day training and professional development process aimed at helping higher education teachers develop their ability to think like a designer and to facilitate students' creative thinking when they are working in groups.

Expectations, Experiences and Encounters in HE and HE in FE – The 3Es
University of Bolton

This event is hosted by the University of Bolton on behalf of the NW Network Group and has been developed to disseminate the findings of collaborative research into student expectations, experiences and encounters with higher education undertaken in the Northwest of England.

Student expectations, experiences and encounters, and staff perceptions were explored through innovative research partnerships between staff teaching higher education art, design and media in universities and further education colleges. The value of these  partnerships will also form a focus for the day.

The keynote speaker is Professor Mantz Yorke who will present issues that have arisen from the research he has undertaken on the student experience.

Ian Lindsay, Academic Advisor HE in FE for the Higher Education Academy Subject Network will talk about why and how HE in FE staff can get involved in scholarly activity and how the Academy and its Subject Centres can help to facilitate this.

'They just change the bus route' - Students' mobility decisions and how these impact on choices about Higher Education
UCAS, Cheltenham

Clare Holdsworth, from the University of Liverpool, reviews the evidence of changing patterns in students’ mobility and how those mobility choices are associated with distinct decisions about HE.
 
In particular they will consider how the decision to study locally is associated with vocational/skill-enhancement approaches to HE rather than embracing those based on the arts.

Call for contributions

The JISC Regional Support Centre for London has had a request from a supported creative Higher Education Institution for examples of use or case studies relating to:

-         social media (Web 2.0) in teaching and learning / research / content creation.
-         new and emerging technologies in teaching and learning / research / content creation - e.g. proximity sensors or smart textiles.

eLEARNING Web 2.0 CONFERENCE

CALL FOR PARTICIPATION AND PRESENTATIONS

eLearning 2.0 is a two-day international mini-conference exploring the impact of Web 2.0 on Technology-Enhanced Learning and involves keynote
lectures and invited presentations.

The conference aims to explore the impact of Web 2.0 on Technology-Enhanced Learning. The next generation of eLearning, eLearning 2.0, will involve computer-based communication, information sharing, inter-operability, and collaboration to support learning.

Evolving technologies that impact on learning include web-based communities, hosted services, and applications such as social-networking sites, video and audio podcasting, wikis, blogs, and folksonomies (e.g. Delicious). The conference aims to examine the impact and potential exploitation of these technologies in an educational setting.

The conference will comprise invited keynote speeches and individual presentations. The conference will be recorded and published online as a series of audio podcasts.

Attendance is by INVITATION only. There is a maximum participation of 50 attendees. Participation is open to academics, training providers, policy makers and practitioners. Potential participants should express an interest in either attending or presenting as soon as possible. They will then be sent an official invitation to participate in the conference. Attendance is FREE of charge, and coffee and lunch will be provided.

Participants who wish to give a presentation should submit an abstract of no more than 200 words indicating their subject of interest.
