News on latest Skillset Media Academy
University of the West of Scotland (UWS) are pleased to announce that it has received Media Academy* accreditation from Skillset, the Sector Skills Council for Creative Media, and joins 22 other Skillset Media Academies across the UK.
This prestigious accreditation sees the creation of the University of the West of Scotland Skillset Media Academy, bringing together all of the University’s provision in support of the creative media sector, from its School of Creative & Cultural Industries, School of Computing and Business School.
The Academy, which will operate across UWS’ four campuses in Ayr, Dumfries, Hamilton and Paisley, offers a wide range of practice-led programmes that are supported by first-rate facilities and equip students with the skills in demand by the creative industries.

* The Skillset Media Academy Network is a UK-wide group of Centres of Excellence in creative media education and training. The institutions in the network have been identified by Skillset on behalf of the UK television and interactive media industries. Skillset is the Sector Skills Council (SSC) for Creative Media, with responsibility for 60 per cent of the UK Creative Industries. This comprises TV, film, radio, interactive media, animation, computer games, facilities, photo imaging, publishing, advertising and fashion and textiles. SSCs are licensed by the UK Government and by Ministers in the devolved administrations to tackle the skills and productivity challenges by sector. They are independent, UK-wide organisations, are employer-led, and actively involve trade unions, professional bodies and other stakeholders in the industry.
