Improving the degree attainment of Black and minority ethnic students
The Higher Education Academy (HEA) Inclusion team has launched a joint publication with Equality Challenge Unit (ECU). The commentary, written by Jane Berry from the HEA along with Gary Loke from ECU, showcases the varying approaches made by 15 higher education institutions to address the attainment gap in their institutions.
In 2009/10, and as part of a joint programme of activity with Equality Challenge Unit (ECU), the HEA delivered a 12-month developmental change programme to support institutions in improving the degree attainment of their Black and minority ethnic (BME) students. This resource is a commentary on the outcomes of the programme and draws upon the experiences of 15 participating institutions as they seek to address what is widely acknowledged to be a very challenging agenda. It offers the sector ideas, strategies and examples of initiatives on how to better support BME students.
