HEA postgraduate experience surveys 2011
Invitation to participate, deadline: 3 December 2010
The postgraduate experience surveys are a unique service provided by the Higher Education Academy (HEA) to all UK higher education institutions.
The Postgraduate Research Experience Survey (PRES) and the Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey (PTES) allow institutions to collect feedback from current postgraduate students about their higher degree programmes. Results are anonymous, allowing comparison against sector benchmarks and previous years' survey results, ensuring that they are used for internal enhancement rather than for league tables.
Both PRES and PTES will run in 2011: PRES between 1 March and 17 May 2011, and PTES for a flexible period (i.e. chosen by institutions) between February and May 2011.
The HEA would like to invite all institutions to register their interest in running one or both surveys: please let them know your institution is interested by emailing email@example.com by 3 December 2010. You will then be sent your registration documents in early December along with information, advice and guidance on how to set up and run the survey(s).
(Please note: if you have already registered your interest there is no need to do anything else until you are sent your registration documents in early December. However, if you have only registered your interest in PTES 2011 and would also like to participate in PRES 2011, please let them know so that they can ensure you receive all the relevant information.)
Conducting the survey(s) is each institution’s responsibility, but substantial support is provided by the HEA. Each institution must nominate a PRES and/or PTES officer, who will be responsible for administering the survey(s) within their institution and be the main contact between the institution and the HEA. The surveys are excellent value for money: the only cost is for the Bristol Online Surveys (BOS) licence needed to run the survey, a minimum of just £400 for one survey or £650 for both. This not only includes support throughout the survey process, including advice on increasing response rates and analysing results, but continues once the survey period is over through our enhancement support activities.
For more information on what would be involved in running the survey(s), please see the information leaflets: What is PRES? and What is PTES?.
