Enhancing Learning through Technology: Evidence-based Practice Seminar Series and Syntheses

As part of its HEFCE funded Enhancing learning through Technology programme the Academy is working with institutions to synthesise and disseminate good practice in the use of technology to enhance learning teaching and assessment for the benefit of the wider HE community.

Activities for 2010 are focusing on three areas:

  • assessment and feedback;
  • employability and employee learning
  • professional learning and teaching practice.

 and include:
 

1.    Evidence-based Practice Seminar Series 2010

A series of 29 free seminars will take place between February and July 2010 to promote the effective use of technology in the areas of: assessment and feedback; employee learning and employability; and professional learning and teaching practice.   The seminars are open to all those interested in the topic area, with preference being given to staff working in HE and FE institutions.
Outcomes from each seminar will include a briefing paper for the sector to be disseminated via the Academy’s Evidence Net service.

2. Syntheses of evidence-based practice

Following an open call, the Academy has commissioned the universities listed below to conduct in-depth syntheses of research and evaluation project findings in the following areas:

  • The University of Southampton: assessment and feedback
  • Leeds Metropolitan University: employability and employee learning;
  • The Open University: professional learning and teaching practice.

 
The syntheses will include implications for practice and provide exemplars of evidence-informed practice involving the use of technology to enhance the student learning experience for each of the areas.  As well as involving ‘desk-based’ activities, the syntheses will require engagement with practitioners in the related fields and the associated seminar series.
The timescale for the syntheses is 1 January – 31 August 2010.
