Preparing for success: supporting international students in the disciplines
- University of Southampton
- 12 November 2010 10:30-16:15
This is a collaborative event between the Subject Centre for Languages, Linguistics and Area Studies (LLAS) and the HEA/UKCISA initiative Teaching International Students. It is aimed at teaching staff across disciplines and will explore the role of lecturers in the preparation of international students for study in the UK.
Since the responsibility for preparing international students for success is shared by a variety of practitioners including those working on pre-sessional courses and lecturers working in disciplines, this workshop aims to present ideas and advice for strengthening shared understandings and practice to enhance support for international students.
It will consider the potential of the pre-sessional, focusing particularly on the ways in which disciplinary input to a pre-sessional programme can have a positive impact on teaching, learning and assessing international students as they prepare for - and progress through - their studies.
