Learning on Screen 2008

Location:
National Science Learning Centre, University of York
Date(s):
18 March 2008 00:00 - 19 March 2008 00:00

Organised by the British Universities Film & Video Council this two day conference includes the Learning on Screen Awards event on the evening of 18th March.

The underlying theme of the meeting, "Sixty Years of Moving Pictures in Higher Education", will offer presentations from Dr Robin Moss (formerly of the IBA), Sarah Mahurter (University of the Arts London), Peter Phillips (University of Southampton) and Simon Campbell Jones (former Editor BBC HORIZON).

Other sessions will offer demonstrations of BBC Motion Gallery, online access to Independent Local Radio archives, use of streaming media at the University of Portsmouth, practical documentary course work, visualising sociology, use of television drama in medical education, and using Web 2.0 in promoting multimedia in bioethics education.

An open session will be run during Learning on Screen to encourage participants to share views to respond to the Government’s public consultation on the Gowers Review of copyright exceptions – the outcome of which will have a bearing on use of formerly broadcast content in distance education, format shifting and archive preservation

(see www.ipo.gov.uk/consult-copyrightexceptions.htm).
