We are pleased to announce that this year's ADM-HEA Annual Forum will be held at The Lowry, Salford Quays, Salford.

The Annual Forums hosted by the ADM-HEA are an opportunity for colleagues to consider some of the more fundamental and conceptual issues that drive teaching and learning across our subjects. They are a departure from practical workshops, staff development and consultations and rather than offer practical advice are intended to provoke ideas and debate.

This year we will be considering a range of ideas around KNOWLEDGE in the disciplines. In subjects where knowledge is contingent and context is everything, do we have authoritative bodies of knowledge in the disciplines that can be transmitted from teachers to learners? This year’s ADM-HEA Annual Forum will consider this and other questions that lie at the core of our practices.

As in previous forums we have invited a number of commentators (Chairs) to start the debates with a view from their own position. The aim is for each group to deliver a framework for a paper, covering the key issues and scope of their discussion. Each group will be allocated a ‘reporter’ who will record the discussions and work with the chair and the ADM-HEA to draft a paper. The collected papers will be published by the ADM-HEA later in the year.

Chairs:

  • Dr Richard Berger, Bournemouth University
  • Professor Bruce Brown, University of Brighton
  • Mr Ian Farren, University of Cumbria
  • Professor Judith Mottram, Nottingham Trent University
  • Mr William Merrin, Swansea University
  • Professor Allan Walker, Glasgow School of Art

More information about the Chairs and a summary of their discussion topics.

We are offering around 100 places and in response to the feedback from last year, will again hold discussions running in both morning and afternoon sessions.

The event is free of charge for staff working within HE in the UK and lunch is provided* . Registrations will be taken on a first-come, first served basis and will initially be limited to 3 places per institution to enable as many representatives from UK HEIs to attend as possible. The 2006 and 2007 Annual Forums were both fully booked soon after the announcements, so please reserve your place early.

PLEASE NOTE: If you register your interest in this event your place will not be confirmed until we receive a completed form (sent from our office) and you have received confirmation from us.

* A charge is applied for non-attendance if adequate notice is not given.

This event is now fully booked but if you would like to be added to the reserve list please register your interest.
