Higher Education and Sustainable Development in Scotland

Location:
Apex City Quay Hotel & Spa, Dundee
Date(s):
13 June 2007 10:00-16:00

The Higher Education Academy, the Scottish Funding Council (SFC) and the Environmental Association for Universities and Colleges (EAUC) are organising a one-day event for all those involved (or would like to be involved) in educating for sustainable development (ESD) at degree level in Scotland.

This day is designed to enable exchange of activities, plans, ideas and case studies between those working on education for sustainable development within Scotland. The programme will consist of networking sessions and plenaries.

Our keynote speaker is Jan Bebbington, Professor of Accounting and Sustainable Development in the School of Management at the University of St. Andrews and the Director of the St. Andrews Sustainability Institute. She is also Vice-Chair (Scotland) of the Sustainable Development Commission and has been an external advisor to the Scottish Cabinet Sub-Committee on Sustainable Scotland from 2002. Jan has extensive experience of educating for sustainable development, both within her own discipline of social and environmental accounting as well as in interdisciplinary settings.

There is also an opportunity for participants to showcase their work.

There is no charge for attendance at this event and we welcome participation from all those who have experience of, or are considering, incorporating ESD into their higher education work – or incorporating higher education into their ESD work. Statutory agencies, local authorities, voluntary and community organisations, and those working within higher education are all invited to express their interest in attending. In order to ensure a balanced mix of representation, confirmation of whether a place has been reserved for you will be sent on receipt of a completed short questionnaire. However, even if you are not able to attend the event, please do submit your details via the link below, as another of the goals is to begin "mapping" the ESD work in the region. Therefore, all responses will be made available to all respondents. (Completing the questionnaire does not obligate you to attend the event.)
