2011 International Institute for SoTL Scholars and Mentors
- Omaha, Nebraska, USA
- 1 June 2011 08:00 - 4 June 2011 16:45
"Transformational Learning: Engaging Education in a Global World" is part of the larger 2011 International Institute for SoTL Scholars and Mentors (formerly the CASTL Summer Institute) by registering yourself, your faculty/staff, and/or your administrative team.
This developmental summer institute is specifically designed to offer faculty, university administrators/staff, and students a variety of opportunities to develop your SoTL learning and abilities and to further promote or mentor SoTL work at your various home institutions. Developmental opportunities include:
- Pre-institute workshop and leadership forum (June 1)
- Three days of workshops
- Scholars’ presentations of “works-in-progress” that allow us all to learn and grow in our own SoTL work as individual instructors and as campus leaders—new this year: Special Topic Scholars’ Presentations: Faculty Development/Mentoring SoTL (campus-wide issues)
- Featured presentations by Alice Thomas, Howard University School of Law; Dennis Jacobs, University of Notre Dame; and Edward Taylor, Penn State University-Harrisburg.
Fostering transformational learning is about teaching for change, and SoTL serves as a useful lens by which to examine our taken for granted assumptions and aptly frames an exploration of educational practices capable of transforming our traditional, returning, and non-traditional students’ learning experiences, both inside and outside the traditional classrooms and laboratories. The Institute and this year’s theme will feature a variety of disciplinary and methodological studies. Consider joining our community and contribute your efforts to develop and mentor scholars of teaching and learning!
